No Communion for a Bag Lady

 

she took possession of the bench
with box and bag and body bent

the fountain do not notice
as it played the air with dance

the mountain ash did not complain
and into their shade welcome her limping frame

unlike the pigeons
who boldly begged for bread

an improper silence left us both
unforgiven and unfed
